Still Familiar

This was taken at the same spot - give or take a couple of yards - that the previous shot was taken. We're used to seeing Great Blue Herons being a little more, well, blue, but in the winter their plumage becomes more dowdy. It's still a magnificent bird whatever the season.

Differently Familiar

When you walk the same paths over and over, you can become complacent about the scenery around you. Sometimes it takes a dramatic change, like our recent snowfall, to show you how nature's turns can make the familiar new again.

Still Life 2020

The 16th and 17th centuries are often regarded as the highpoint for the classic still life painting, also collectively identified as the Vanitas movement. Here's my own little homage to Vanitas, 2020-style.
